The new Chrome version allows you to consume less battery even with several tabs open at the same time. This is a step forward, but users can practice other little tricks for make Chrome more efficient.

As we have already pointed out several times, Chrome in the past it handled the tabs in the background less efficiently than it does now and this caused a high battery consumption of our various portable devices. Google has recently worked on this flaw, and it seems to have found a fair compromise with the update of its browser. However, there are some tricks that anyone can put into practice to improve the efficiency of Google Chrome and at the same time not go to affect the performance and the autonomy of the laptop.

Refresh the browser

The very first thing to do is to check the version of Chrome you are using. To do this, just type chrome: // help / in the search bar and you will be directed to the appropriate browser page. In this way we will see a wording that indicates the version used, and we can also update the browser. If we haven't blocked it previously, the update will happen automatically and we'll just have to restart the browser to have the latest version available. Understanding that Chrome is up to date is very easy just look at the "Google Chrome is up to date" item, which appears under the description of the version used.

Check the extensions

The more extensions and tabs we use, the greater the consumption of Chrome on the battery of our device. Before taking a drastic choice and closing all open tabs we check through the browser's built-in task manager which cards consume the most CPU and RAM. Finding task manager is very simple, we open the menu, select the item Other Tools and finally click on the word Task Manager. To stop the tabs and extensions that consume the most just click on "terminate process".

Hardware acceleration

Among the Chrome settings we also find the function for hardware acceleration that allows you to improve browser performance Google. For some experts, however, this function does not actually help but rather decreases performance and increases consumption, while for others it is very useful. The only way to find out is to test it on your computer. Doing it is simple, we open the menu (the icon with three vertical dots at the top right) and go to the Settings item. At this point we scroll the page that will open and go to the last wording present: "Show advanced settings". Now we will see the wording Use hardware acceleration when available, and activate it by pressing the check mark. At this point we will have to restart the browser for the changes to take effect.

Reset

If the techniques described above have not helped in improving the performance and consumption of the browser then we can think of perform a Reset. The reset button is located in Advanced Settings exactly under the heading for hardware acceleration. To carry out the operation just click on "Reset Settings", and then Restore to confirm the action.
